Jaws Grave

On a quiet hillside in Allegheny Cemetery is one of Pittsburgh’s most unexpected landmarks: a headstone carved with the iconic image from Jaws. Known by locals as the "Jaws Grave," it marks the final resting place of Lester C. Madden—a Korean War veteran and lifelong fan of the 1975 shark thriller. Over the years, the stone has become a beloved piece of local lore, affectionately nicknamed the Great White Shark Monument and featured on the cemetery’s official tour.
